OTTER - Presentation of the keyboard tool at the EMSE

OTTER (Online Tablet Keyboard Exploration) is our free online learning environment that primary school pupils can use to get to know and practise the most important functions of the on-screen keyboard.

After a successful pilot phase with over 30,000 participating pupils in summer 2025, we are currently working intensively on the further development of the OTTER tool. We have already been able to incorporate much of the valuable feedback from the schools into the revision.

On December 15, 2025, we presented the development and planned innovations to OTTER at the EMSE (Empirically Supported School Development) network conference and discussed them with teachers, school administrators and researchers. Topics included requirements for typing speed tests, task formats for the mathematics chapter and information channels for teachers.

Otter Otto will return in March 2026 with new adventures and tasks for pupils. Further information on the expansion of the tool will follow in a separate announcement.
