Mourning for Prof. Dr. Peter Nenniger

The staff of zepf and Verlag Empirische Pädagogik mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Peter Nenniger, who passed away on 25 November 2024.

Prof. Nenniger had accepted the professorship of Educational Science in the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Koblenz-Landau in 1992 and at the same time joined the collegial management of zepf, which he was a member of until his retirement in 2009. Prof. Nenniger had studied both psychology and educational science and was therefore at home in the two disciplines that characterise zepf's work. During his time at the University of Landau and beyond, he was active for the EARLI as coordinator of the Special Interest Group ‘Motivation and Emotion’, a liaison lecturer of the German Research Foundation at the university, President of Division 5 of the International Association for Applied Psychology (IAAP) and, after many years as a member of the Academic Council of the Humboldt Society, he was its President after his retirement from 2014 to 2018. Prof. Nenniger has published extensively internationally and, as an editor and advisory board member, has supervised journals, anthologies and series, including those published by Empirische Pädagogik. His academic interest lay in research on the conditions for motivating autonomous learning, but also on methodological questions. His loss is a heavy blow for all those who knew him. Science and the academic world have lost a great thinker and an inspiring personality. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. We will always remember Prof. Dr. Peter Nenniger fondly as someone who contributed to the academic community with his high academic standards.
