MICHELANGELO - The most representative artists and artworks of six European countries in the last ten centuries

What contribution did the 16th century painter and engraver Maria Sybilla Merian make to research into the developmental stages of insects? What artistic significance do the gargoyles of Cologne Cathedral, created in the 12th century, have? Or how did the fine arts develop in Bulgaria, Italy or England over the past centuries? The EU project and Internet portal "Michelangelo", which was completed by the fall of 2009, aims to provide answers to all these questions and more. Teachers from five European countries (Bulgaria, Germany, England, Italy and Poland) are working under the coordination of scientific institutions to prepare the most important national works of art and artists of the participating countries from the past ten centuries for educational purposes (in English). The German project partner is the university's Center for Empirical Pedagogical Research (zepf). The portal will be a source of information for anyone interested in art and will serve as a valuable educational resource for pupils and teachers in particular when preparing lessons or presentations. It will be possible to search for art either by century or by country. In addition, the portal contains elaborate learning materials for use in the classroom.
