Career Counseling for Teachers (CCT) is a computer-based program for self-exploration and assessment of personal suitability and motivation for the teaching profession. This "classic" CCT focuses particularly on assessing the aspect of "suitability for the teaching profession" and offers a series of procedures for this purpose, which are bundled in the form of so-called "guided tours."

Rhineland-Palatinate is incorporating the traditional CCT into its reform concept for teacher training, thus establishing a framework for career-related self-reflection and self-exploration throughout the entire course of study and training. As a complement and further development, a series of new "guided tours" are being developed to accompany prospective teachers on their path into the profession.

Currently being developed is "Tour 3-RLP" (http://cct.rlp.de/). This self-assessment focuses on students' competency development after completing their "In-Depth Internships" (after the 5th semester). It allows students to determine the extent to which they have demonstrated a level of competency that meets expectations. The tour is designed as a tool for developing competency and focuses on two different, interrelated aspects: competencies and experience—both of which are anchored in the students' first practical experiences. The focus of Tour 3-RLP is on the reports generated for students after completing the self-assessment. These reports, in the form of recommendations for action, are intended to enable students to further develop their competencies in a targeted manner.

The integration of further tours (Tour 4 – RLP and Tour 5 – RLP) is planned and will continue the monitoring of competence development established by Tour 3 – RLP in a longitudinal perspective and will also combine cross-sectional aspects of the professional development tasks of prospective teachers in their preparatory service and in the initial career phase.
